About Maya Script
The most sophisticated writing system in the pre-Columbian Americas. Over 1,000 known glyphs combining logograms and syllabograms. Decipherment began in the 1950s by Tatiana Proskouriakoff. Written in columns read left to right, top to bottom. Spanish bishop Diego de Landa burned almost all Maya books. Only 4 codices survive.
