About Pitman Shorthand
A phonetic shorthand by Isaac Pitman where stroke thickness distinguishes related sounds. Symbols represent sounds, not letters, omitting silent ones entirely. Stenographers reached over 200 words per minute. Adapted to more than a dozen languages. Pitman taught it by correspondence course, a Victorian innovation.
