About Nom Script

The Vietnamese adaptation of Chinese characters for writing native words. Up to 20,000 characters were devised, making it far harder than Chinese itself. Used for a thousand years of poetry and state documents alongside classical Chinese. The epic Tale of Kieu was composed in it. Almost entirely replaced by the Latin-based quoc ngu alphabet by the 1920s.
