About Bamum Script
Invented by King Njoya of the Bamum people. Evolved from a pictographic system through multiple stages. Originally had over 500 characters, later simplified to about 70. The script was banned by the French colonial administration. Rediscovered in the 2000s and undergoing revival. A museum in Foumban preserves the original manuscripts.
