About Javanese Script
The royal script of the Javanese courts of Surakarta and Yogyakarta. Evolved from Kawi between the 14th and 18th centuries. Each consonant carries an inherent o vowel, unlike the a of most Indic scripts. Old Javanese literature survives in thousands of palm leaf manuscripts. Now taught in schools as cultural heritage.
