About Kawi Script
The first Indic script of the Indonesian archipelago, carried by trade from India. Wrote Old Javanese, Sanskrit, and Old Malay. Ancestor of Balinese, Javanese, and the traditional Philippine scripts. Inscriptions across Java and Bali record kings and temples between the 8th and 15th centuries. Dutch scholars deciphered most of the corpus in the 19th century.
