About Meroitic
The writing of the kingdom of Kush at Meroe in Nubia. Two forms: hieroglyphic for monuments and cursive for everyday use. Phonetic values were cracked in 1911, yet the language remains poorly understood. The script stopped being used around 500 AD. The oldest Sub-Saharan African script that can be read aloud but not understood.
