Written vertically in columns from left to right. Derived from the Uyghur script which came from Sogdian. Genghis Khan adopted it as the official script of the Mongol Empire. Was replaced by Cyrillic under Soviet influence but is being revived. The vertical writing direction is unique among modern scripts. Over 5 million potential users.
