About Orkhon Script
The writing of the Gokturk khaganates, named for inscriptions in the Orkhon valley. Also called Old Turkic or Turkic runes. 38 letters, most named for body parts like eyebrow and nose after their shapes. Deciphered by Vilhelm Thomsen in 1893, revealing the first written Turkic language. Memorial stelae honor the princes Kul Tigin and Bilge Khagan.
