About Sogdian
The script of the Silk Road merchants of Sogdiana, centered on Samarkand. Descended from Syriac through Aramaic. A cache of Sogdian letters was found in a watchtower west of Dunhuang. Parent of the Uyghur, Mongolian, and Manchu scripts. The Sogdian language survives today only as Yaghnobi in Tajikistan.
