Created by Thonmi Sambhota under King Songtsen Gampo. Based on the Devanagari script with 30 consonants and 4 vowel signs. Written left to right with a dot marking syllable boundaries. Used for Buddhist religious texts across the Himalayas. The calligraphic style varies from the formal uchen to the cursive ume. Over 6 million users.
